Zimbabwe Debates PVO Bill Amid Criticism

Zimbabwe is currently engaged in discussions and public hearings regarding the Private Voluntary Organizations (PVO) Amendment Bill and the Persons with Disabilities Bill. The PVO Bill has faced criticism for potentially restricting civil society freedoms and democratic space by granting excessive power to the Ministry and the PVO Registrar.

The Persons with Disabilities Bill aims to establish a framework for upholding the rights of persons with disabilities but has been criticized for accessibility issues, particularly regarding a public hearing venue in Chinhoyi not being wheelchair-friendly. The public is encouraged to participate in ongoing public consultations and provide input on both bills.
